What should a SWPPP inspection form include?

A SWPPP inspection form should capture everything your permit requires in an inspection report. Under EPA's 2022 Construction General Permit that is the inspection date, the names and titles of the inspectors, a summary of findings including maintenance and corrective action needed, the rain reading that triggered a storm inspection, and any area that was unsafe to inspect. The report is due within 24 hours and is signed by the operator's signatory. EPA 2022 CGP Part 4.7.1-4.7.2

National guide. The rules cited are from EPA's 2022 Construction General Permit (as modified in 2025), checked October 20, 2026, which applies where EPA is the permitting authority. Most states issue their own permit with different details; check your state before relying on a number.

Dewatering inspections and the corrective action log

On each day of a dewatering discharge, inspect and record the details Part 4.6.3 lists for dewatering. EPA 2022 CGP Part 4.3.2, 4.6.3 Corrective action needs its own log: the condition and when it was found, within 24 hours, then the actions taken within 24 hours of completing them, each entry signed, kept on site and retained 3 years.
